Proclaiming your Resurrection

Help us, O risen Lord, to proclaim your Resurrection,
by bringing good news to the poor,
and healing the hearts that are broken.

Help us, O risen Lord, to proclaim your Resurrection,
by feeding those who are hungry,
and clothing those who are naked.

Help us, O risen Lord, to proclaim your Resurrection,
by releasing the captives of injustice,
and all those who are imprisoned by their sins.

Help us, O risen Lord, to proclaim your Resurrection,
by welcoming the strangers,
and visiting those in loneliness.

Help us, O risen Lord, to proclaim your Resurrection,
by bringing your peace to those who are in trouble,
and your joy to those who are in sorrow.

God our Father, who raised your Son from the dead,
help us to understand, we beg you,
that we will conquer our own death
and rise with Jesus today
when we live in brotherly love.

We ask you this grace through Jesus Christ,
who died for our sins and rose for our life.
(Lucien Deiss, Biblical Prayers)

St. Patrick’s Day – Thursday 17th March
St. Patrick was born very probably in the early years of the fifth century in the Roman colony of Britain. He was taken captive at the age of sixteen and brought to Ireland where he was sold as a slave. He tended herds on Slemish Mountain for six years. His captivity had a very positive effect on his spiritual life. He prayed many times each day, his faith growing stronger and his love and reverence for God increasing.

He escaped back home at the age of twenty-two. It was obvious to him that God was calling him to return to convert the Irish. The voice of the Irish was calling him to come and walk among them once more. He studied probably in France, returned to Ireland as a Bishop c. 457-61, or as early as 432 according to another tradition.

His mission was not immediately greatly successful but eventually he would make a tremendous number of converts. Two writings survive: the Letter to Coroticus, a protest to the soldiers of a British prince who had killed some converts and sold others as slaves, and his Confession, written near the end of his life, showing him as one living by the faith he preached and allowing Christ to direct his whole life. He died in 491, though again other dates have been suggested, 480 or as early as 461.

Penitential Litany – Gospel of Luke

You come to look for the lost sheep;
joyfully you carry it on your shoulders –
we beg you: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!

You go to meet the prodigal son;
you clasp him in your arms and kiss him –
we beg you: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!

You choose as your apostle Matthew the tax-collector:
you have not come to call the righteous, but sinners –
we beg you: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!

You enter the house of Zachaeus the tax-collector
in order to seek out and save what was lost –
we beg you: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!

You accept the ointment of the sinful woman;
because of her tears you pardon and defend her –
we beg you: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!

To the good thief who implores you,
you open the gate to Paradise –
we beg you: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!
(Lucien Deiss, Biblical Prayers)

The Pope’s Intentions for March
Universal: Families in Difficulty  That families in need may receive the necessary support and that children may grow up in healthy and peaceful environments.

Evangelisation: Persecuted Christians  That those Christians who, on account of their faith, are discriminated against or are being persecuted, may remain strong and faithful to the Gospel, thanks to the incessant prayer of the Church.

You Who Await the Return of the Sinner

Blessed be you, O Lord, O Merciful one – you who await the return of the sinner, you who rejoice over finding the lost sheep, you who embrace the son who returns to his home.

Bestow your mercy on all people, soften the hardness of our hearts, break the pride of our impenitent spirits.

Do not close the door of your house, Lord!  Wait until the last of your children returns.  And only then begin the eternal feast of your mercy!

God of love, you give your people the fond hope that, after sin, you leave room for repentance.

Give each of us the joy of using this time of Lent to return to you with all our hearts as a child returns to his father.
(Lucien Deiss, Biblical Prayers)
