EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Our Parish Eucharistic Adoration takes place each week on Monday from 2.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. (except when Monday is a Church Holiday or a Public Holiday).

There will be no Adoration on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd August.

 

Saint Pio Prayer Group will take place on Monday 3rd August in St. Mary’s Church, Irishtown, Clommel. Rosary and prayers at 6.30 p.m. Mass at 7.00 p.m. for petitions placed in the basket on the altar.  All are welcome.

 

First Friday Next Friday is the First Friday of the month. Sr. Mary and Fr. Hegarty will bring Holy Communion to the persons who have asked to receive it in their own homes.
If there are other persons who would like to receive Communion at home on the First Friday (or at any other convenient day), please inform us and we will call to you and make arrangements.

 

Youth 2000 Summer Festival will take place at Cistercian College,  Roscrea, from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th August. For young people aged 16 – 35, this is a great opportunity to find out what your Catholic faith is all about in a friendly, chilled out atmosphere. The festival is donation only. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Launch of Laudato Si, ‘Care for our Common Home’ will take place on Tuesday 28th July at 7.30 p.m. in The Tower Hotel, Waterford. Fr. Sean McDonagh, a leading environmental theologian who was involved in the drafting of Laudato Si, will introduce the Encyclical and will discuss its implications for us locally. We hope as many as possible will come to hear Sean, whose life and work has been dedicated to raising awareness of the threat of climate change and environmental destruction.

The Bishop has sent us some copies of the Encyclical. These are available in the Sacristy at €4 (Four Euro) per copy.

 

St. Vincent de Paul Monthly Collection will take place after all Masses next weekend Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August.

 

The Catholic Grandparents Association would like to invite all  grandparents, parents and grandchildren to celebrate this wonderful  memorial day for St. Joachim and St. Anne on Sunday 26th July, and  we will be delighted to welcome you all to the National Grandparents  Pilgrimage at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, on Sunday 13th September.

Irish Blood Transfusion Service would like to thank 484 Donors who  attended their Blood Donor Clinic in Clonmel recently. Donors, together with the families, friends and neighbours that support them, make up a  community that brings life and hope to hospital patients every day.

 

Visiting the Sick  Please let us know when you have somebody sick in Hospital (or at home). We will be glad to visit, and to pray for them.

Fundraising
Our annual FAMILY FUN WALK brought in €5,968.10. The CLONMEL VINTAGE AND CLASSIC CAR CLUB gave us a donation of €5,500.00.

Great credit and THANKS are due to all those who organised and participated in these events.

With these and other donations we have now reached €122,268.28 towards our target of €130,000.00.

 

National Eucharistic Congress 2015

This Sunday and for the next four Sundays, the Gospel readings will be from the 6th Chapter of St. John’s Gospel which is about the “Bread of Life”, the Holy Eucharist. These reading will help us to prepare for the National Eucharistic Congress which will take place at Knock on September 26th and 27th. The theme of the Congress is: “Christ Our Hope” (Col 1:27).

It would be great if we could have a couple of volunteers to promote the Eucharistic Congress in our Parish and to liaise with the Diocese and with the other Parishes in Clonmel. Perhaps a Pilgrimage to Knock can be organised for one of those days.

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) The members of the PPC meet monthly to reflect on our Parish. We try to discern the areas of greatest need and how we might be able to reach out to these. We need a few more people to help us in this service. The next meeting is in the Parish Centre at 8.00 p.m. on Monday 31st August.

1. ‘’LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore’ – ‘Praise be to you, my Lord’. In the words of this beautiful canticle, St. Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us. ‘Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs’.

2. This sister now cries out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods with which God has endowed her. We have come to see ourselves as her lords and masters, entitled to plunder her at will. The violence present in our hearts, wounded by sin, is also reflected in the symptoms of sickness evident in the soil, in the water, in the air and in all forms of life. This is why the earth herself, burdened and laid waste, is among the most abandoned and maltreated of our poor; she ‘groans in travail’ (Rm 8:22). We have forgotten that we ourselves are dust of the earth (cf. Gn 2:7); our very bodies are made up of her elements, we breathe her air and we receive life and refreshment from her waters”.

Ordination  Thanks to all who were associated with the Ordination of Rev. Lazarus Gidolf to the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of  Waterford and Lismore. A special thanks to Liam O’ Shea and the Choir for the amount of time they spent in preparation. We thank Mary Dee for her help. Thanks also to those who prepared flowers for the Altar and to Elaine and our own staff here for all their help.

The Parish Family Fun Walk  This was again a great success. Thanks to all who participated, donated or helped in any way. We hope to make this our Annual Gathering and Fund-raising activity.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION  Our Parish Eucharistic Adoration takes place each week on Monday from 2.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. (except when Monday is a Church Holiday or a Public Holiday).

Wednesday 1st July Feast Day of St. Oliver Plunkett, bishop and martyr. It is also the feast-day of Blessed Antonio Rosmini who was declared Blessed on 18th November 2007.

 

First Friday Next Friday is the First Friday of the month. Sr. Mary and Fr. Hegarty will bring Holy Communion to the persons who have asked to receive it in their own homes.

 

St. Vincent de Paul Monthly Collection will take place after all Masses next weekend Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July.

Thanks from Nepal The person to whom donations for Nepal were sent, Mary Fanning Lama, has written to say thanks. Monies received from Ireland were distributed to many needy people. Among those helped were pregnant women and mothers with young children, and people that needed aftercare on being discharged from hospitals.

Collection for the Needs of the Diocese  This annual collection will take place next weekend 27th/28th June. The proceeds from this collection go towards funding Accord, Family Ministry Services, Cura, Child Safeguarding and services provided by St. John’s Pastoral Centre. Sunday

Every seven days, the Church celebrates the Easter mystery.  This tradition goes back to the time of the Apostles. It takes its origin from the actual day of Christ’s Resurrection. Sunday extends the celebration of Easter throughout the year. It is meant to be illumined by the glory of the Risen Christ. It makes present the new creation brought about by Christ.

Sunday also recalls the creation of the world. The Genesis account of creation, expressed in poetic style, is a hymn of awe and adoration of God in the presence of the immensity of creation.

The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council explained how we should celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday, or its vigil on Saturday evening:

The Church, therefore, earnestly desires that Christ’s faithful, when present at this mystery of faith, should not be there as strangers or silent spectators. On the contrary, through a good understanding of the rites and prayers they should take part in the sacred action, conscious of what they are doing, with devotion and full collaboration. They should be instructed by God’s word and be nourished at the table of the Lord’s Body.  They should give thanks to God. Offering the immaculate victim, not only through the hands of the priest, but also together with him, they should learn to offer themselves. Through Christ, the Mediator, they should be drawn day by day into ever more perfect union with God and with each other, so that finally God may be all in all. (SC, no 48)

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)  The PPC meets roughly once a month to reflect on our Parish. The members are open to hearing from anybody who has suggestions or concerns, or who would want to say something about the Parish. The present members are: Meta Cunningham, Michael Carroll, Mandy Dalton, Elaine Downey, Lazarus Gidolf. We would hope to have a few more members soon, and if anybody would like to join in, please contact any of the above or Fr. Hegarty (Ph 6125679).

 

Mass for the People of the Parish  Once a week (usually on Monday) Mass is offered for the Intentions of all the people of the parish. We remember especially those that are sick. Even if you can’t attend the Mass you and your loved ones are remembered.

 

Lost/Found  Various items umbrellas, glasses etc have been left in the Church. If they belong to you, please collect them from the sacristy.

 

Irish Cancer Society would like to thank St. Oliver’s Parish for their generosity to the recent church gate collection.  €219.50 received will go towards making a difference in the lives of people affected by cancer.

 

Feast of the Irish Martyrs  Saturday next 20th June is the Feast of the Irish Martyrs. Our Church here is dedicated also to those 17 Martyrs who were beatified by Pope John Paul 11 in 1992. We pray that we too may have the courage to bear witness to our faith.

 

Mass in St. Patrick’s Well  Newly ordained Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan will celebrate Mass in St. Patrick’s Well on Thursday evening 25th June at 8.00 p.m. This will be his first Mass in Clonmel. Everybody is invited to come along and give him a big Cead Míle Fáilte.

Accord Pre Marriage Courses for 2015 will be held in Clonmel on: June 14th & 21st,   September 27th & October 4th,   November 8th & 15th, from 9.00 a.m. – 200 p.m. All courses are being held in Hotel Minella. All couples must attend both Sundays. The cost of the course is €150 per couple. All materials – tea/coffee refreshemnts are included.

Fundraising Concert in aid of ASD Unit, Ardfinnan and Cherry Blossom, Irishtown, Clonmel will take place on Friday 12th June at 8.00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Irishtown, Clonmel. Music by The Clonmel Concert Band, Derek Ryan (Bass Baritone) and The Unity Singers, Kilkenny.  Tickets €10 available from Ardfinnan N.S., St. Mary’s CBS, Irishtown, Marians, and are also available on the night.
