Growing in Love
St. John in his First Letter says: ‘God is Love’ (1 Jn 4:8). The whole effort of our Christian living is to grow in love of God and in love of people.

The new religious education programme for Primary Schools is aptly called GROW IN LOVE. It was introduced last year for Junior and Senior Infants and, this September, it has been introduced for First and Second Classes. Here in St. Oliver’s Parish Centre last Monday we were happy to host an in-service training session for around sixty teachers. The commitment and enthusiasm of our teachers is inspiring, and as parish and parents, we will do our best to collaborate in the programme. Parents, the first educators of their children, have a vital role. They themselves will learn much from the new programme.

It will be very important to accompany children to weekly Masses in the various Parishes. Here in St. Oliver’s we have started the Monthly ’Family Mass’ on the First Sunday of each month. Parents and children of all ages are invited to get involved. We need a few more volunteers to help organise these Masses.

Our Bishop is making outreach to young people one of the priorities of his pastoral ministry. In this context he is inviting young peopleof the age group 18 – 25 to take part in a Retreat at Glencomeragh from October 7th (9.00 p.m.) to October 9th (3.00 p.m.) This is a free Retreat but donations are welcome.

We can all help by spreading the good news about the ‘Grow in Love’ programme and about the happenings for our young people. Our young people are the future of the Church.
