Bishop Alphonsus writes  Café Theology In an effort to reach out to those who do not darken the door of our churches I am starting off an initiative called ‘Café Theology’. Basically it involves inviting all and sundry to a café, presenting a speaker to speak on some topical faith-related issue and starting a discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.

It will kick off with John Waters, writer, journalist, celebrity! etc who will speak on ‘God and the Constitution’ in the Tapestry Room of the Granville Hotel at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday May 13th. There is no admission fee but we ask those who come along to buy a cup of coffee and a bun or biscuit which helps the discussion and makes it worthwhile for the hotel. I hope that this will be the start of a series of Café Theology sessions. Please spread the word especially to students, in parish newsletters, papers, your friends, etc.”

An Eastertide Prayer  –  This Is The Day You Made For Us

This is the day you have made for us, risen Lord, a day of happiness and joy!

We pray to you, Lord: Make each day that you give us the most beautiful day of our lives, because it is the day you have chosen for us to encounter you.  O risen Christ!

May you be blessed, Lord Jesus, because your Resurrection is the hope of our own, and the glory which will clothe us on the last day is a reflection of that which clothed you on Easter morning.

We pray to you: Let all our lives express this hope by their constant renewal through the joy of your love and the service of our brothers and sisters.

(Lucien Deiss, Biblical Prayers)
